Community Holiday Luminaria

What is luminaria? It’s a holiday lantern consisting of a votive candle or battery powered tea light in a small bag or milk jug, weighted down with sand inside.  The tradition dates to 16th century Mexico. Luminaria means light in Spanish.  They’re put in a line with other lanterns, all along our lawns adjacent to the curbs.  Here in Sharon Woods, we have lit up our street sides in front of our homes for decades.

Let’s keep the tradition going this year!  Please feel free to light your properties with them this year.  Traditionally they are set out on Christmas Eve at dusk. You can purchase candles on our website: sharonwoodsca.org/candles They will be delivered to your house in the next few weeks.

Take a walk and enjoy the season!   Happy Holidays from the Sharon Woods Civic Association.
