About Us

The Sharon Woods Civic Association is a local nonprofit corporation operated exclusively for the civic betterment of the Sharon Woods community.

Strong and vibrant neighborhoods make the city of Columbus strong. When we form partnerships within neighborhoods, we can enhance and highlight the assets of our connected community. Columbus recognizes the important role neighborhoods play in developing a larger vision and how associations help guide decisions that have an effect on us all.

The Sharon Woods community was established in 1967 and is located in the Northland area on the northeast side of Columbus. Our community is home to approximately 1,850 residences and is bordered by Schrock Road, Maple Canyon Avenue, East Dublin Granville Road, and Karl Road.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a neighborhood civic association?

A civic association is a group of people who come together to work towards improving their community.

A neighborhood civic association is a group of residents, business representatives, and other interested citizens who devote their time and energy to improve and enhance a defined, geographic area where they live and operate. These associations offer an opportunity for government officials, developers, and other interested parties to solicit input from the residents of the community.

Neighborhood meetings, projects, and social events are places for neighbors to meet, exchange ideas, prioritize projects, propose solutions, and implement plans for the neighborhood.

Is this an HOA?

Sharon Woods Civic Association is not an HOA. Membership and participation in our association are completely voluntary.

A homeowners association (HOA) is typically focused on maintaining property values and enforcing rules within a specific neighborhood or development. In contrast, a civic association is usually more focused on broader community issues and initiatives. As such, our association does not create or enforce any rules/restrictions for residents and their properties in Sharon Woods. Rather, we observe — and encourage all residents to observe — all ordinances of the City of Columbus in which we live and operate.

What do you do?

Our association engages in a wide range of activities, from organizing community events and beautification projects to advocating for local policies and initiatives. Check out our online calendar for upcoming opportunities to see our community in action.

What is the assocication’s role in local government?

Civic associations play an important role in local government by advocating for community interests and engaging with elected officials and government agencies. They can also provide valuable input and feedback on local policies and initiatives.
