As the leaves finish falling and winter weather approaches, now’s a good time to remind our residents about the importance of keeping our street gutters clear. Take some time in these partly sunny days to finalize outdoor cleanup, including sweeping out your street gutters.
If street gutters are clogged with leaves and dirt, snow and ice can build up and prevent water from flowing easily into storm drains. This buildup can prevent your driveway from draining properly, making it difficult to enter/exit your home. Even worse, it’s possible for street-terminating gutter pipes to back up and freeze, causing damage and preventing water from draining properly from your roof. Water can then run down the side of one’s house and possibly end up in the basement.
