Date: November 7, 2024
Location: Church of the Good Shepherd, Sharon Woods Blvd.
Opening: Meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance
Police Liaison: Our Liaison is John Brown [email protected] During our last meeting, we discussed the former O’Charleys building, and the owner signed a trespassing order. They are addressing other problem properties in the area. If we know of any businesses that are worried about their property, CPD can walk the property with them and do a vulnerability assessment. There are 3 new block watches in the precinct. Cheshire Commons started one. For a block watch to be establish, there needs to be 20% participation in the meetings. (to get the official signs hung up in the neighborhood)
**To set up a block watch, you have to have 3 meetings that a ‘sufficient’ group of neighbors attend. There should be a Captain established for the group, and you can hold the meetings whenever and how often you choose.
Special Guest Commander Shannon Stephens was assigned to our zone in mid-August. She has assigned a patrol officer to work solely on car break-ins. This is mainly being done by an organized juvenile operation who use stolen vehicles. They are usually wearing masks and gloves. They are picking up patrols in shopping center areas for the Holidays. She is working with the Hotel Nuisance Abatement group to start a pilot project over by the 161 hotels. Looking to parent with OSU, Health Dept, JFS, and Faith-based services to reach these people and provide additional help. They will be starting this new initiative in 2025.
She said to address speeding issues, 311 is the best place to make the complaints.
They are also trying to get a domestic violence program approved. This will be educational materials on the backs of bathroom stalls in different languages to let them know they can get help from a hotline 24/7/365.
