November 9, 2025

Date: November 6, 2025
Location: Church of the Good Shepherd, Sharon Woods Blvd.
Opening: Meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance
Police Liaison: Our CLO, Officer David Phillips came to the meeting. Our area had low criminal activity this month except for the attack at Beechcroft High School. Reach out to him if you have any concerns. (614) 645-1401 [email protected]. The force is providing signs that we can put at our neighborhood entrances to let criminals know that taking packages off porches is a felony in Columbus. We will be getting a few from him.
Guest Speaker: Missy Rouse from Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association was the guest speaker. The Sage test is a good way to assess someone from home/on your own. She runs many support groups in town. She provided a lot of good information on the disease.  You can reach out to her if you are looking for more information about Alzheimer’s, support for caregivers, etc. Her email is: [email protected]
President Report (Thomas Page)– The CRASE training happened in October. Another idea that someone had during the training was a self-defense course. We are going to look into options for that. If you have an idea for a safety course that we could bring to our neighborhood, reach out to [email protected]
VP Report (Elizabeth Fulakis)– Missy met Elah and family at NNO, and she and her husband came to the meeting. She introduced Elizabeth to the book- Art of Neighboring. It suggests that you meet 8 of your closest neighbors. Elizabeth has been applying to grants to try to get more funds for SWCA, so reach out to her if you know of a grant she can apply for.
NCC Meeting (Elizabeth Fulakis)– Meeting was 11/4, and they discussed that we are in Zone-In Phase 2. It involves 43% of the city and creating a lot of new housing units. There is a Public Comment period through 11/9 and a public hearing on 11/19 at 5PM to discuss the proposed legislation.
NCC Dev Meeting– There was 1 case which was for rezoning the property at 5357 Cleveland Ave. If you are interested in attending the NCC Dev Meeting as a representative for SWCA, they are held at the Karl Rd. Library 6PM on the last Wednesday of every month. The Development meeting for December will be 12/3.
Secretary Report (Laura Bastin)– Meeting notes are posted on our website.
Treasurer Report (Karen Osmond): You can get the latest report by reaching out to [email protected]
Beautification Report (Penny Hackbarth): She is going to apply more weed killer for the 161 island, and we should have a clean-up to pick up the leaves at the Schrock Rd. island. Looking at a Sunday afternoon in November.
Upcoming Events:
December Dinner meeting at Don Tequila 12/4 at 6:30PM. We have a reservation for our group. This is a social meeting, so there will not be an agenda. We encourage you to bring your families as we want to get as many neighbors together as possible.
Call to Action:
We are still looking for more volunteers from our community to take on open board member/committee roles. Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in learning more. The roles that are currently open are: Advertising, Social Media, Gatepost content creation, Welcoming and Nominating Committees
