June 2021 Meeting Minutes

President’s Report (John Kirkpatrick)

Next clean-up is June 12 at 9:00 am. Tyler will add to our website. John looked over the island, and he thinks they look pretty good. John is going to ask Larry/police and the fire department to start attending our in-person meetings. John nominated Deacon and Jordan to be Trustees. Don seconded it. And the group voted to make them Trustees.

Vice President’s Report (Ann Trimble)

(No report.)

Treasurer’s Report (Karen Osmond)

Karen sent a suggested budget for 2021–2022. She also sent a recap of last month’s financials. We spent more money than came in because we had a Gatepost and other expenses. We went over the proposed budget for next year and discussed the related fields. We decided that we need to raise the membership fees to help offset added costs. A motion was made to bring the fees to $15 for seniors and $18 for other members. The motion was seconded. Everyone that is in charge of a line item should get with Karen to discuss their area.

Secretary’s Report (Laura Bastin)

Laura will send out the meeting notes to everyone who attended. Tyler is going to post online and also send out the Zoom link. Even though we are planning to attend in person, we think it will help to provide an option to those who don’t want to or can’t attend in person.

Landscape/Beautification (Open Position)

Next clean-up event is Saturday, June 12, at 9:00 am. Russell Landscaping had a contract to keep up the trees at the Schrock Road islands. We paused that while it is discussed since no one on the current leadership team was involved in that contract.

Northland Community Council (John Kirkpatrick)

NCC has a police liaison, Scott Clinger, and he is retiring. Members from the City of Columbus came to discuss the two hotels that are housing some of the homeless community. Those contracts are ending soon, and they said they are moving them into affordable housing. They also discussed the shelters which have room. They are going to start meeting in person next month at the Friendship Village. The city will be holding a National Night Out event this year.

Northland Community Council Development (Jordan Reeves)

There were two applications that night. The first was for a multi-family apartment building which was approved for 10 units. The second application was to change the use of a parcel from a hotel to residential. That application was also approved.

Beechcroft Lions Club (Roger Heckel)

They are winding the year down. They are installing new officers in June. It was a difficult year because of Covid, and there weren’t a lot of projects they could do because of that.

Gatepost & Website (Tyler Mitchell)

Tyler said he is finalizing content for the upcoming Gatepost. He is still working on the new schedule, but he is aiming for July 1 for when the next Gatepost will hit mailboxes. Tyler has sent out requests to individuals for articles, and he will follow up with them about that. Tyler is also starting to work on selling advertising for the Gatepost. He received a list of previous advertisers, and he is building a list of potential advertisers for future editions. He is still planning to roll out the new website in June. Leila asked who can post things on the website, and Tyler is going to talk with her about the types of content and cadence for posting.

Garage Sale

Is there someone that wants to have a SWCA garage sale? We are going to advertise it, create a map for those that are going to participate, and we are going to put something in the next Gatepost for that. The garage sale will be held Labor Day weekend, and it is $5 to be advertised. Tyler will write an entry for the next Gatepost. August 23 cutoff date to be added to the sale advertisement.

National Night Out Event

We are not holding an NNO event this year.
