April Meeting Minutes

April 7, 2025

Date: April 3, 2025

Location: Church of the Good Shepherd, Sharon Woods Blvd.

Opening: Meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance

Police Liaison: In the absence of a CLO, Thomas printed off the crime stats for all of March.

President Report (Thomas Page)– He suggested that the Executive Board gets business cards made to help spread the word about SWCA. He mocked up what they could look like. Quick research gave an estimate of $23.10 + shipping for 50 cards (which was the minimum order). Thinking of other ideas to get the word out about the association.

Got an update from Tiffany Elkhart for the 161 roundabout construction (from Beechcroft to Devonshire). They are in the planning portion for Phase 2, and our area is Phase 3 which is supposed to begin in 2026. There are delays while they determine the best ways for people to continue accessing the businesses, etc., so not confident that Phase 3 will start on time.

VP Report (Elizabeth Fulakis)- Her church is doing Shark Tank again this year, and the deadline to submit the application is the 18th. You would have to sell your pitch in-person at the end of April. They are offering a grant for up to $5000. If we are going to apply again, she is asking for help with this.

NCC Meeting (Elizabeth Fulakis)– There was a round table discussion about adding more municipalities into NCC.

NCC Dev Meeting- Thomas attended meeting and there was only 1 case heard. It was a residential case where a home has also been conducting business and asked to be rezoned for business. This is at 4743 and 4745 Cleveland Ave.

Secretary Report (Laura Bastin)– Looking for volunteers to help pass out the next edition of the Gatepost to our neighborhood.

Treasurer Report (Karen Osmond): Treasurer report available in digital form upon request.

Beautification Report (open): Penny Hackbarth has volunteered to be the new Beautification Chair. Penny suggested a light cleaning in April and then the full island clean-up the first weekend of June.

Meeting Discussion: What topics would we want to put on the front of the Gatepost? Conversation is about educating our neighbors about their responsibilities for taking care of their property. It is important that our neighbors are using 3-1-1 to submit any issues and help keep our neighborhood in good shape. Thomas said that there is an app ‘Cbus311’ where you can submit 3-1-1 tickets, follow snow plow progress, get to Park Columbus, etc.

Deonna Maiden had old SWCA items that Thomas picked up from her which included a box of old pictures. We plan to digitize them.

New News- Tyler mocked up a website where neighbors could purchase SWCA merchandise. The organization would not make any money off purchases, but it would be a way to help get the association’s name out in the community more. https://merch.sharonwoodsca.org/ The executive committee will get together to discuss how this would work before finalizing it.

Gatepost- Thomas is going to start working on the next Gatepost hanger. Suggested ideas are to explain the benefit of the Cbus311 app and how we can use it to help keep our neighborhood beautiful. Looking for advertisers for future Gateposts and people to advertise on the website.
